The criminals encrypt important data for the company and often demand millions in ransom to let go of the encryption. Every fourth Swedish medium-sized company has been exposed to a security breach in the past year. This is shown by the new report Telia’s digital index 2022, where Swedish companies have had to answer questions about IT security.
“Everyone” or “the CEO” is responsible for IT security
According to the survey, 47 percent of Swedish companies (1-249 employees) have employees who continuously work with IT and data security. The second most common solution is to hire an external company or consultants 38 percent of the companies do. But: Among the smallest companies (1-9 employees), the most common answer is that “no one” works with IT and data security. When asked who is responsible for IT and computer security at the company, “CEO” and “all” are the most common answers among small businesses. Only 16 percent answer a dedicated IT manager and 11 percent say that the responsibility lies with an external company or external supplier. It is common for the responsibility for IT and cyber security to be unclear in smaller companies. You may not have the time or resources to prioritize these issues and the responsibility is shared between different individuals. Many technology issues tend to fall into the CEO’s lap, but as CEO you have a wide range of other tasks, says Fredrik Nyberg, IT consultant at Telia.
Secure cloud services at the top of the wish list
The report Telia’s digital index 2022 shows that IT security is generally ranked higher on larger companies. 70 percent of companies with more than 250 employees believe that IT security is a priority, compared with 52 percent of the smallest companies. Regardless of the company’s size, cloud services are at the top of the list of what Swedish companies plan to invest in in terms of security services, the report shows. Nyberg works with tailoring IT solutions for companies. Today, many companies want help to move to the cloud in a safe way and to work safely and smoothly without an office. -responsible. Today, we connect our company computers to the network at home where we share files and chat with colleagues. The company becomes more vulnerable to intrusion at the same time as it is exposed to more attack attempts. For small companies, it can be difficult to set up a secure solution on their own I experience that more and more people turn to an external IT partner for help.
Five benefits of outsourcing
Outsourcing IT responsibility is a growing trend among companies with up to 249 employees, Telia’s digital index shows. Six out of ten companies, regardless of size, in the new survey think that it is an advantage to gather all technology and security issues at one supplier: everything from IT and telephony to security services and cloud services. Maria Bygdemo, business consultant at Telia’s Business Customer Service in Luleå, says that not least small companies have a lot to gain from collecting everything from one supplier: If you as an entrepreneur have four or five suppliers, there will be many contact persons, invoices and agreements to keep track of and services and products that may not complement each other, says she and continues: As the CEO of a small company, you often have several roles from finance to human resources manager while you want to focus on your core business. Calling around for IT support can take a lot of time, and staying up to date on cybersecurity issues is basically impossible if you are not an expert. In Telia’s digital index 2022, companies highlight several benefits of gathering technology from an external partner. Here are the five most important:Minor administrationWith a supplier, administration is simplified.2. Saves time and moneyYou have a contact area for all technology issues. The supplier takes overall responsibility and ensures that the company only invests in the products and services that are actually needed.3. Easy to contact a supplierYou always have a support to contact who is an expert on the company’s IT environment and can solve the problems immediately.4. Safer, easier and more efficientYou can focus entirely on the core business. At the same time, you get a secure IT environment that is updated and developed by technicians with cutting-edge expertise.5. Better control when everything is gathered at one supplierWhen you outsource, the supplier takes responsibility for safety and works proactively with it. For the smallest companies, there is, for example, Telia’s Personal Technician service, which is aimed at companies from one employee and up. The service is based on you getting a technician from Telia who you can turn to regardless of need, question or problem, says Maria Bygdemo. How to get a personal technician at Telia, read more here
