Data was collected, and the AI was able to quickly see and analyze patterns that humans were unable to perceive. In addition, it could suggest actions. Then came Open AI’s tool ChatGPT. The world was amazed: In five days, the new service had gained one million users – a record time for a new product. But what was really revolutionary was that this AI couldn’t just understand content. It could also create it all by itself with the help of a little hand holding from a human. These abilities together with the extremely fast development, companies now face a completely new reality that they have to deal with. – It’s about survival, both in the short and long term. It is not that the technology itself will outcompete companies, but those who learn to establish and enable the use of generative AI will outcompete the companies who do not, says Daniel Hjelte who is responsible for data-driven business development at Accenture in The Nordic countries.Joel Hofgren and Daniel Hjelte. The only problem is that it is not enough to log in and ask the AI services to start working. In its new report, A new era of generative AI for everyone, Accenture identifies three dimensions of AI development that companies must take into account in order to make the transition: the technology, the people and last but not least the ethics.- If we start with the technical companies must realize that access to an AI model in itself is no longer a competitive advantage because both the model and the data it is based on are available to everyone. And also about the report believe that it is important to let the employees consume the AI model, i.e. use and learn from it, the big success factor is also being able to modify the model with own data. – Data is gold and the companies that already have have been good at managing their data will succeed better with their use of AI, says Joel Hofgren, responsible for new technology at Accenture in Sweden, and continues: – Take a clothing company as an example. If they have a handle on their sales statistics, on what sells well where and when, the designer can ask the AI to suggest clothing items that, based on the data, should sell well next season. And from there the person can work further. This leads to the second important dimension of successful AI use: the people. – We advise all our customers to have a “people first” mindset. AI should not replace humans but be used as a complement to increase efficiency and quality. Roughly speaking: AI will not replace your role, but a human complemented by AI will, says Daniel Hjelte. In the report points out the authors that it is precisely tasks, not professions, that will be replaced by the machine, and that what companies must now start thinking about is how different professional groups can make their work more efficient with the help of AI. However, both Joel Hofgren and Daniel Hjelte point out that it is extremely important not only to look at how today’s tasks can be done with the help of AI, but also to look ahead. – Do a thought experiment. Imagine that you have an infinite number of AI robots that can automate activities, converse, analyze data and create completely new content. What would these digital employees then do? What could you accomplish then that you cannot do today? Don’t think of it as a technology project, but as a business project made possible by new technology, says Daniel Hjelte. Both of these dimensions – the technology and the people – are important to get started with AI use. But what is crucial for both companies and society to land smoothly is to constantly keep an eye on the third dimension: ethics and regulations. – AI use includes a great many things that require thought, points out Joel Hofgren. – You must be aware of issues related to privacy, data use, intellectual property rights and copyright. You have to think about ethical use of AI, and you have to think in terms of sustainability. Using these generative AI models takes an incredible amount of energy in a world where we already have a shortage of clean electricity, and all of this companies have to deal with.AI development is running at the same time at a furious pace and it is important to start early so as not to fall behind. So in which dimension should you actually start working? The answer from Joel Hofgren and Daniel Hjelte is: in all three. – They must cooperate, it’s that simple. If you only have an eye on technology and regulations, you will develop excellent technical aids that comply with the rules, but you will not create or scale value for your business, says Daniel Hjelte. – On the other hand, if you focus on business and technology but ignore in ethics, then you will certainly produce good applications but both you and the outside world will be exposed to risk. It is a very interesting balancing act we have before us. A balancing act that can mean success for Nordic companies, which generally have not advanced as far technically and commercially in their use of AI as American and Chinese, but which are used to working with ethical issues. – We have a position that is unique when it comes to taking comprehensive responsibility, and right now we have the opportunity to really take the lead when it comes to responsible interaction between humans and AI. Six steps to adapt the organization to a world with AI
1 Get started, with a focus on the business – pick the low-hanging fruit, but don’t forget to think about what business AI enables in the future 2 Put the human at the center – they should not be replaced by AI, but must be trained so that they have the skills to use the models in the best way3 Focus on your own data – it is when you connect general AI models to your own data that you really create an edge4 Invest in your technical platform – the basic structure must be in place so that you can use AI on a both efficient and energy-sustainable way5 Work with the innovative power of your ecosystem – take advantage of best practice from across the industry6 Work with the ethical aspects – before you scale up your AI use, make sure you have a sufficiently robust and comprehensive framework for responsible AI .
