Ground screws – the foundation of the new generation

Published: September 20, 2022, 12:29 Updated: September 21, 2022, 10:49The company Sluta Gräv has developed a concept where ground screws replace cement plinths and cast slabs. The result is greatly reduced emissions of carbon dioxide throughout a building’s life cycle – and this at a lower price. – This is a technology that is disruptive and will completely change the outlook on how we build houses and other constructions, says Richard Alm, CEO of Sluta Gräv. About 40 percent of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions come from buildings, of which 80 percent comes from the construction itself. The need for a ground foundation that contributes to reduced climate impact during construction is therefore great. The ground screws from Sluta Gräv replace concrete foundations by being screwed down to a sufficient depth. The construction is built on top of the screws, such as sound boards, solar panels on land, Attefallshus and wooden decksMany advantages of earth screw from Sluta GrävA ground screw lowers carbon dioxide emissions by 60 percent compared to a concrete plinth. But the benefits are many more. In addition to greater strength and stability, the work goes faster – and all this at a lower cost. – Plinths have been dug since the Stone Age and now there is a new technology that is better, cheaper and more durable. Many innovative companies choose us as partners when they need to build sustainably, says Richard Alm. The screw itself is made of galvanized steel and is available in different models depending on what it is to be used for and what ground conditions prevail. The screw can be reused several times, for example when demolishing a house. The day the screw becomes too worn, the metal can be recycled. – It is a huge step compared to concrete plinths. Cement is not reused. Every time you have to build a new building with concrete, you have to use new resources from a lime quarry to the cement to create the concrete. Then it is much more sustainable to use our ground screws, he says. The auger is predicted to dominate the marketElisabeth Lodin is PR & Communications Manager at Sluta Gräv. – We see a construction industry that is in the midst of a major paradigm shift where construction companies, if they do not have an environmentally classified product, are eliminated at once in a procurement. Therefore, it is important that all actors take responsibility and change to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly construction. Our soil auger is part of that, she says. In 10–15 years, Sluta Gräv predicts that the soil auger will be an original product, which is fully established on the market and has almost completely replaced the concrete plinth.About Stop DiggingSluta Gräv is Sweden’s largest supplier of cost-effective ground anchoring via ground screws.
