Kremlin: Putin has visited Mariupol in Ukraine

A difficult to verify video put forward by the Kremlin and Russian propaganda media shows Putin driving a car in a dark area, visiting what appears to be Mariupol’s concert hall and talking to some people portrayed as ordinary Mariupol residents. If the visit has taken place, it is Putin’s first visit to the Ukrainian territories occupied during the full-scale invasion that began a year ago. It is not clear when the visit should have taken place, but Putin was in the Crimean city of Sevastopol early Saturday to commemorate the anniversary of Russia’s illegal annexation of the peninsula. Later, images emerged from Rostov-na-Donu on the Russian side of the border with Ukraine, where he met with his close confidante, General Valery Gerasimov, who is in supreme command of the invasion forces.Mariupol’s actual city government, who were expelled from the occupied city, in a statement on Telegram condemns the alleged visit of “the international criminal” Putin. Mychajlo Podoljak, adviser to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyj, writes on Twitter that “the killer of thousands of Mariupol’s families came to admire the ruins of the city and the graves.” The coastal city of Mariupol lies along the occupied strip of land that stretches from the Crimean peninsula to Russia. The city was under siege with extensive Russian attacks, where large parts were completely razed. According to various estimates, tens of thousands of civilians have been killed.” People have started to return. When they saw that the reconstruction was underway, they actively began to turn back,” says Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Chusnullin, according to the state news agency Ria.Tens of thousands of war crimes in Ukraine is being investigated and will be investigated. Last Friday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued an arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin, who was singled out as the person most responsible for mass transfers and forced adoptions of Ukrainian children in Russia. On Ukrainian soil, Putin can in theory be arrested as Ukraine has given the ICC jurisdiction in Ukraine. Putin has not commented on the order personally, but his spokesman has dismissed it as completely irrelevant because Russia is not a member of the ICC. In the past 24 hours, Russian attacks on Ukraine have also continued. Journalists from the AFP news agency, on the scene in the city of Kramatorsk, heard about ten explosions on Saturday afternoon, after which smoke rose from a park. When they arrived at the park, they saw an injured elderly woman passed away, which was confirmed by photos. One more person was killed and a total of ten injured, according to the Ukrainian authorities. Soon after, another round of explosions was heard in a neighborhood two kilometers away. There, the journalists were met by a badly injured taxi driver. According to Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko, Russia used banned cluster bombs in the attacks. about a dozen residential buildings were damaged. Kramatorsk is one of the largest cities in contested Donetsk, a few miles from the front line and, among other things, the city of Bachmut, where intense fighting has been going on recently. The city has been exposed to number of attacks in the past year. On April 8 last year, around 60 civilians were killed when a Russian cluster bomb was dropped on a railway station where thousands of people were waiting to be evacuated. Investigations have shown that Russia has had posts near Kramatorsk from which cluster munitions were fired.
