GAS Consultoria, investigated for criminal organization, money laundering and crimes against the popular economy, released this Monday morning (30) a response to the report aired by Fantástico on Sunday (29). In the article, Rede Globo's program showed that the company moved R$ 38 billion illegally and that its founder, Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, threatened to tie up a reporter for the network and planned to flee Brazil. It also showed that Santos' wife, Mirelis Zerpa, left the country. In the statement, sent by the new press office of GAS – FSB Comunicação, one of the largest agencies in Brazil -, the company said that the billionaire value quoted in the report 'refers to third-party capital of lawful and declared origin, held in custody by the clients to GAS Consultoria for having contracted its trading services to operate in the cryptoactive market for almost a decade'. Regarding threats made to a journalist from Rede Globo, intercepted in a telephone call from the Federal Police, the company said that Santos behaved aggressively because of intense emotions. In the conversation shown by Fantástico, Santos and a security guard said the following: “Reporter arrived here, it's to pick it up, tie it up, and I'll decide what to do. It won't do anything, it'll just hold….Take the cell phone. He has a gun in his hand, man. Use authority….and have everything that was filmed erased”. "What was broadcast over the phone to the company's CEO, in the heat of the moment, led him to believe that people who bypassed security at the gatehouse broke into the building and took the opportunity of an open door to aggressively enter the office , could be spies for competing companies or even robbers. Based on this mistaken assessment resulting from telephone calls, Glaidson's instructions to the security guard were to detain, at all costs, the invaders until the arrival of the police,” the company said in the note. Regarding the possible flight from Brazil, GAS said that Santos would travel because he had events scheduled outside the country. “Hotel and flight reservations were made in early June. Due to unforeseen circumstances in the routine of any CEO of a large company, the scheduled trip was postponed and, therefore, he was easily found at his home. It is worth remembering Glaidson has always been solicitous, fully collaborating with law enforcement agents”. In the statement, GAS again stated that it is not a financial pyramid and that the accusations against the company are unfounded. No comments were made about Mirelis leaving Brazil. Interpol issued a red alert against her.
Santos was arrested on Wednesday (25) as part of the Federal Police's Kryptos operation. The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and the Federal Revenue also participated in the action. Four other people also arrested. He is accused of orchestrating a billion-dollar fraud through GAS, a company created by him and Mirelis that claimed to work in cryptocurrencies and promised to pay investors 10% monthly income. Santos was already in the PF's crosshairs for a long time on suspicion of committing a crime against the popular economy and money laundering. In 2019, the Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM) opened an administrative proceeding to investigate the company.
