Financial market raises GDP expansion from 4.85% to 5%

The financial market forecast for the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) this year rose from 5.82% to 5.90%. For 2022, the inflation estimate remained at 3.78%. For both 2023 and 2024, the forecast for the index remains at 3.25%. The estimate for 2022 exceeds the limit of the inflation target that should be pursued by the BC. The center of the target, defined by the National Monetary Council, is 3.75%, with a tolerance interval of 1.5 percentage points upwards or downwards. That is, the lower limit is 2.25% and the upper limit is 5.25%. Interest rate

The main instrument used by the BC to achieve the inflation target is the basic interest rate (Selic), which is set by the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom). The forecast of financial institutions for the Selic in 2022 registered high, going from the 6.25% forecast a week ago to 6.50%, according to this week's Focus bulletin. The same index is expected for 2022, 2023 and 2024.
